According to the nurse, the woman who lived in the southern Japanese island of Okinawa was dead on Sunday. The family is keeping tight Kama Chinen's privacy. According to the Gerontology Research Group - tracking the age of very old individuals - the World's Oldest Person, Kama Chinen was born on May 10, 1895. The white-haired and petite, Kama Chinen spent last year at a treatment center in the southeast of Okinawa Nanjo.


Since time immemorial, the Japanese had held the total percentage of people with more than 100 years of age the highest in the world. Many of them are from the southern area of Okinawa. Based on government reports issued in September last, there are more than 40,000 Japanese citizens who lived more than 100 years. More than 86 percent of them are women.
